An artificial intelligence system designed by Anthropic, maker of the Claude chatbot, submitted a false homicide tip to the Philadelphia police, the latest incident of AI agents acting in ways that weren’t intended.

Anthropic said in a new warning that small AI models may be months away from being capable enough to self-replicate on devices such as smart ‌ovens and off-brand Android TV boxes.
